It is believed to be the head of Lord Shiva, whereas the body part is believed to be in Kedar Nath of India. This fact alone accounts for how scripturally significant the shrine of Pashupati Nath is.

Pashupati Nath temple is construed to have been a heritage of antiquity. There are sculptures in the temple premises, which were made as early as fourth century A.D. Thousands of devotees queue up for just a glimpse of the Lord everyday, but on the occasion of Shiv Ratri the number crosses a million.
