India has been a major seat of learning for thousands of years. The country was home to both Takshashila – the first university in the world, and to the inventor of the digit 0 – Äryabhata. Albert Einstein once said, “we owe a lot to the Indians who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made”.

Today, India is known as a communication hub and has become popular with international students from all over the world. It is highly attractive due to its forward thinking, its popularity with large multinational companies, and also due to English being the common language of communication. According to Peter Drucker, “India has become a powerhouse very fast, the medical school in New Delhi is now perhaps the best in the world. The technical graduates of Indian Institute of Technology, Bangalore are as good as any in the world. Also, India has 150 million people for whom English is their main language so India is indeed becoming a knowledge center”.

In Bangladesh, a medical school is known as a medical college. Allopathic and Alternative Medicine related medical education at the graduate level is provided by medical colleges. The colleges are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), and are affiliated with a university on the respective region. They however have to be recognized after meeting set criteria by a central regulatory authority called Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC). In 1986, all the medical colleges were established by the government. Sice then, several private medical colleges have been set up. There are total 89 recognized medical colleges in Bangladesh, 29 of which are public and 54 private. Apart from these, there are six medical colleges which are run by the Bangladesh Armed Forces and are under the Ministry of Defense.

All the medical colleges award the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). The Doctor of Medicine (MD) OF Master of Surgery (MS) is awarded as a postgraduate research degree in selected medical colleges and universities, following the medical tradition of Commonwealth countries. As per the declaration of overseas registration of the General Medical Council, the awarded MBBS degree from some of the institutions is eligible to apply for registration in the United Kingdom.

The higher education system in China is comparatively comprehensive and complete. Institutions which offer higher education include universities, colleges, and professional schools of higher education. Like institutions in Europe and America, Chinese institutions of higher education mainly take responsibility of teaching, scientific research, and social services.In order to ensure the quality of enrolled university students, China has established a very strict enrollment examination system to select those students have received high school graduation certificates and pass the national entrance exam.

For foreign students, getting into Chinese universities is less stressed and highly encouraged. The world welcomes Chinese university graduates because of their qualifications and excellence. Many graduates from China universities are accepted by leading universities in North America, Europe, Japan, Australia and other countries. In China, about 20,000 graduates go to the aforementioned countries to accept further education every year. Great places like Silicon Valley, Wall Street, famous universities and world-class laboratories also open door for Chinese university graduates. Most significantly, the Chinese government has signed mutual agreements of recognition with 64 countries and regions.
